We like to think we're an honest, hardworking bunch with a passion for perfection and the best coffee in the world.... well, of course we would say that! Why not put us to the test, give us a call or meet and have a chat, there is always a cup of coffee with your name on it here at The Bean Barn ;-)
Co-Founder Scott Russell is the driving entrepreneurial force behind Paddy & Scott's. If he were a coffee bean, he'd be a punchy robusta - bitter sweet with a no nonsense kick. Not a bad barista and perfectionist when it comes to quality, most happy when sparring with our MD Mark. He's married to Linzi, has four sons, teaches youth rugby and is a keen cyclist.
Paddy Bishopp is our co-founder and the real epicurean behind the company. If he were a coffee bean, he'd be a Brazilian Arabica - tall, dark and smooth! He's at his best when talking about his passion for food and drink, and don't get him on his soap box about poor quality coffee! Father to 3 boys and husband to Sarah, an accomplished sportsman and keen runner.
Mark is a board director and Chartered Accountant with over 20 years experience in the retail and food industry. He’s one of those guys who’s constantly positive, motivating and genuinely thinks we really appreciate his colourful spreadsheets... He loves rugby, is incredibly proud of his two sons and lovely wife June.
Philippa is a board director and looks after our corporate accounts, oversees HR and Customer Services, this means she’s very serious but we love her! With her solid catering management background in private members clubs with million pound restoration projects to USAF facilities dealing with presidential visits, nothing we throw at her is ever viewed as daunting! Our Cocoa Bean enjoys cycling and family time with her boys and is a mean roller skater...
Linzi is our Head of Retail Cafés: a role which requires boundless energy and great organisational skills. Luckily Linzi possesses these in spades. Whether running around after her 4 boys or keeping our café managers on their toes; she’s always full of beans! When not organising a rota, food tasting, looking after the crew or sneaking into the Framlingham café to work a shift Linzi can be found on the tennis courts exercising her competitive side. She lives in the Suffolk countryside with her husband and their 4 boys as well as a dog and a mad cat.
Zoe is our highly-dedicated Operations Manager; heading up the Executive Management Team and keeping a close eye on efficiency and budgets. Zoe knows the company inside-out as she has worn many ‘Paddy and Scott’s hats over the years. She works hard to keep the team happy – offering her insight and support. She has a busy social life and is great at organising staff get-togethers (mostly to the pub). Zoe is married to Andy, has two step-sons and a fat cat. She loves playing netball, cycling and has an enviable shoe collection!
Chrissie works with Mark in the accounts team and politely calls all our wonderful customers who forget to pay us and once rumoured to have said, “I wish I had a pound for every time a cheque went missing in the post... ” but we don’t believe that as she is far too polite. Chrissie loves her dogs, supports Ipswich Town football Club, is married to Doug and has two sons.
Our Sales Account Manager Martin loves to go the extra mile for our customers. Whether bringing on board new accounts or taking care of current ones; he’s passionate about ensuring people get the most from our fabulous coffee. An enthusiastic foodie: when he’s not travelling the country, spreading the Paddy and Scott’s word; he loves to experiment in the kitchen. Our fresh-air-fan Martin lives by the sea with his partner Lou and Darwin the dog and spends his spare time with his 3 children; enjoying the great outdoors walking or cycling.
Laura is our super-efficient and ever-cheerful Office and Mobilisations Manager. She ensures everything we do runs smoothly; from dealing with suppliers to arranging shipments of coffee or organising customer installations. An avid scuba-diver and skier; Laura has lived in Chamonix for two seasons and passed her level 1 as a ski instructor. When not keeping everything in the office shipshape Laura can be found balancing plasterboard on her head as she renovates her Suffolk home with her fiancé. When she finds free time; Laura enjoys walking her dog or relaxing with a well-deserved gin and tonic.
Jess is our extremely well organised Service Coordinator with a meticulous attention to detail and a love of colour co-ordinated lists. Jess arranges maintenance and engineer visits to ensure your coffee equipment is kept in tip-top condition. In the unfortunate event your coffee machinery decides to throw a tantrum; Jess is the one who ensures you are back up and running in no time! Married to Dan and with two adorable dogs; Jess is a keen gardener, cyclist and has a not-so-secret penchant for homebrewed rhubarb vodka!
There is not much our barista trainer/technician Kit doesn’t know about coffee: Whether he’s fixing a coffee machine or teaching our baristas to perfect their latte art; everything he does is injected with passion and care. Our resident ‘coffee nerd’ is enjoying working through the SCAE professional barista training and loves experimenting with and sampling a wide range of coffees both at work and in his spare time. When he’s not whizzing round the country in the ‘Coffee Response Unit’ his time is divided between family, cars and music. Often mistaken for Ed Sheeran, though of course we’d argue his guitar skills are far superior!
Lovely Lottie gets a kick out of helping our customers! Relentlessly chirpy and full of beans; Lottie is behind the friendly greeting callers to the Bean Barn receive. Whether she’s taking orders, managing stock levels or keeping the paperwork in order; efficiency is the name of the game. In her spare time Lottie can’t sit still for long: she has a busy social life and loves sports – particularly skiing and hockey, even umpiring matches at the weekend. When all her energy is spent Lottie loves relaxing at home with her cross-stitching in hand.
Paris, our Hadleigh Diamond excels in customer service. Constantly smiling, our café manager really does go the extra mile for his customers. He has expertly developed a ‘child friendly’ atmosphere and can be regularly found colouring with his army of mini-fans. Currently working his way to SCAE professional barista standard; he makes a mean flat white too! In his spare time; Paris enjoys jaunts in the countryside with his husband and their two dogs and can be often be found sipping a glass of bubbly for relaxation.
Zoe heads up the team at our Framlingham café. She’s a bubbly, friendly blonde with a great work ethic who has built a fantastic rapport with the café’s many regulars. A great barista too; Zoe can pour a fantastic latte art heart – always served with a smile. Zoe can be found at weekends watching her two sons play football and is always great fun on a girls’ night out! A family girl at heart; she is one of the crew who will always offer help and go the extra mile to look after us all.
Our ever-calm Jess leads our team of ‘geeky’ barista boys at the Bury St Edmunds café. She takes responsibility for making sure that whilst the flat whites are always on-point; they also provide excellent customer service and keep everything running smoothly. She has a gentle, kind manner towards crew and customers alike and offers brilliant front of house care whilst still managing to keep everything in the background ticking over nicely too. Having just moved in with her partner; in her free time, she can be found pottering around their new pad and taking a well-deserved rest from all the barista-boys she looks after.
Head Barista at our Bury St Edmunds café; Josh has a keen eye for detail and a passion for creating the perfect coffee. As a founding member of the Bury crew he offers a warm welcome to all customers and has a great relationship with the regulars, keeping up to date on the local happenings. Currently working through the SCAE professional barista training and loving every minute of it – learning the science behind the perfect drink. Josh is proud of his dual citizenship; sporting his Suffolk-influenced American accent which keeps people guessing where he’s from!
