On Wednesday the doors closed on our 5 year stay within the beautiful, historic town. And while it was an emotional day for our team and our regular customers it wouldn’t be right to leave without a word on our happiest times in the café. As one of our flagship cafés; we’ve poured our time, dedication, imagination and endless energy into The Abbeygate Street site. This has been repaid hundreds of times over by our wonderful customers, the great team we created & the fantastic feedback we’ve received.
We routinely held meetings & took new clients to the cafe to showcase our coffee & the team for what good hospitality should be. We are proud of all that we accomplished there & how well-received we have been.
In that cafe careers were launched: Staff progressing from weekend barista to full-time managers or coffee trainers. Even one prestigious Acorn Award winner began his career at Bury Cafe. Baristas from Bury have earned their professional Specialty Coffee Association qualification, some have left to pursue degrees and further career progression & we’d like to thank every single member of the team for their contribution throughout the journey. Café Managers Lauren & Peter have expressed their thanks to the whole team & all customers who have made their working days ‘more like a hobby than a job.’
Of course, without our customers and the good people of Bury St Edmunds we’d have little to celebrate; much less 5 amazing years of serving beautiful cups of coffee. So here’s to our lovely supporters, our drop-in customers & loyal regulars: We’ve fuelled your journeys to work, given you respite at lunchtime, cured hangovers, hosted meetings, dates, gatherings of friends and family & been a workspace to thousands. Our customers; you have made us smile everyday. You’ve appreciated our hard work and the skill that goes into every cup of the good stuff. You’ve been our guinea pigs for new ideas & always kept us on our toes! Thank you, sincerely.
However as the self-proclaimed ‘most ambitious coffee company in the world’ things never stand still for long at Paddy & Scott’s. This year, in particular we’re charging forward with some really exciting expansions and developments. Sadly it has meant that the building in Abbeygate Street is just too much of a squeeze for us now. We’ve decided to bid a fond farewell in search of bigger premises with commercial kitchens so we can up our game when it comes to food. It turns out fuel can be more than just caffeine-based - progress marches on!
So with exciting plans in the pipeline, as well as the launch of a brand new cafe in Ipswich (more on that later) we say farewell, but not goodbye. Let’s raise a cup to all of our Bury St Edmunds staff & customers for 5 years well spent. As ever....watch this space, there’s always more to come from Paddy & Scott’s!
