Paddy Bishopp and Scott Russell are just two guys who share a passion for great coffee. Paddy used to own a wonderful cafe which was voted The Best Deli/Cafe in Suffolk and harboured a longing desire to roast his own coffee, Scott, on the other hand spent 10 years "on the dark side" in corporate Telecommunications before they literally stumbled over each other during a five aside football match!
"It really started off as a bit of fun", says Paddy, "we bought an old, 2-kilo roaster from a wonderful South African coffee guru and started roasting coffee in Scott's garage for family and friends, it was great fun and really therapeutic". When the friends of their friends started asking for it we were roasting enough coffee to start a small company, hence the birth of Paddy & Scott's, the rest as they say is history!
We soon out grew the garage, gave up our day jobs and found a new home for the business. And it does not get more perfect than The Roastery, in the beautiful village of Earl Soham, in Suffolk. A lovely little place, were we have built a fully functional showroom café and everybody's welcome, so do pop by if you're ever in the area and there will always be a coffee with your name on it.
We now produce 20 different types of gourmet, hand roasted coffee and supply over 250 outlets throughout the UK, including restaurants, cafes and hotels. 2007 saw the launch of our fully fitted in-store cafés, our commercial coffee machine range, the Milano and the Almalfi and our bespoke blending service for organisations who want to create their own specific style of coffee.
We strongly believe business should be fun, but producing coffee does have a serious side. Being fathers we understand the importance of education and nurturing children. In many situations it is the children in the plantation areas who are forgotten and they end up with no or very little education. These children are the future of these areas and education is so important to them. As well as supporting Fair Trade, we help support charities in coffee growing areas by funding existing schools, helping pay fair wages to teachers and supplying books, pens and pencils.
